Having a life partner with kids has been one of the best blessings in my life. You can't do face masks with a grown man, but his 9 year old daughter is more than happy to do charcoal masks with me. She's become one of my best friends; with the best style, cutest face, and knowledge of the best new songs--- I wouldn't trade her for the world. And here's 9 more reasons Why Dating A Man with Kid(s) Rocks!
1. Charcoal Masks- I do a lot of face masks because I always have this idea in my head that they are going to turn out to be way more fun than they actually are. Now there's always someone to use up the extra mask that's left over, and I don't have to be the only one in the house looking like a swamp monster.
2. "Can you get me a blanket?"- Dating a man with children is like having 4 extra legs and arms. Whether I'm cold or thirsty, if they are up and in the kitchen... it's that much easier to ask them to bring you a drink :)
3. Tag Team Wrestling- Instead of trying to wrestle down a 200lb man-beast and losing, I now possess a legion of devoted warriors who will fight beside me to take down their dad. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. And someone usually always gets hurt.
4. It makes you love your man even more- Witnessing the love your man has for his children makes you love the person he is, tenfold. The goodnight hugs and kisses, the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, dirt bike rides, etc. all show you just how big this man's heart is.
5. Entertainment never runs dry- Life with two mini-humans includes crazy antics, hilarious stories, never-ending imagination, and things that you might not otherwise encounter if you were just dating someone without kids. Borrrrringggg....
6. You get 3 guinea pigs for the price of 1- I never had to cook a day in my life until I met their dad. Now, not only do I get to learn, I get to test out all my new recipes on 3 innocent victims!
7. "Have you heard the new song by twenty-one pilots?"- My answer is always no. Dating a man with children means you'll always hear about the newest songs before anyone else! It also means karaoke battles with a nine year old.
8. Getting used to being asked if your sisters.- Makes me feel young again! Not that I feel old, but for the record I'm only 26. We've even decided to answer 'yes' to the long list of strangers who've asked if she's my sister.
9. To not sweat "the little things"- The little things. The little things are everywhere. Small shoes in front of the door. Nutrigrain wrappers/crumbs on the couch. Shopkins on the floor. And I'm okay with it. I'd rather trip on shoes, sit on crumbs, and step on Shopkins, than live in an empty house with no one to share it with. It didn't happen overnight, but I've come to the conclusion that life is messy and it doesn't need to always be perfect and tidy. I like having things a little undone. It means life is happening.
10. But most importantly, it teaches you to put others first- I'll be honest, as a woman with no siblings to speak of, I've always demanded a lot of attention. Living with a man with children has taught me to be more concerned with their well-being than my own. From the little things of making sure they've had enough to eat or if they've brushed their teeth before bed--I've learned that they are the most important thing in his world, and in turn, one of the most important things in mine. I look forward to watching them grow, and being a part of their journey. Lego's everywhere and all...
